The price of Paramount Plus is going up

Paramount Plus is the latest streaming service to increase prices, now billing $9.99 per month for its standard plan. That's a $1 price increase on the $8.99 it previously charged customers paying month-to-month. 

The price increase goes into effect from today for new customers, but existing customers won't pay the higher rate until their first bill in September.

Paramount Plus is attributing the price rise to its expanding content library. 

"Paramount Plus is growing, and in addition to all the great content we’ve always had, we’re bringing you new blockbuster movies, originals, exclusive series, hit shows of every kind, family favourites, and live sport," said the service in an email sent to customers. 

Annual pricing for Paramount Plus will stay firm at $89.99 per year, however. This means an annual subscription effectively gets subscribers three months for free. That's not the worst deal if you constantly rewatch Nathan For You. 

Paramount Plus' price increase has followed a string of other hikes this year. Disney Plus, Amazon Prime, and Spotify have all upped monthly fees in the past months.
